Day 1 | Outbund
Board your overnight flight from the UK to Quito, a capital city high in the Andes at 2,850 metres above sea level. Quito was among the first World Cultural heritage Sites declared by UNESCO in 1978 and when you arrive, you’ll see why.

Day 2 | Quito
Sitting dramatically between green mountain peaks concealed by the afternoon mist, the warm and relaxed atmosphere of traditional Ecuadorian Sierra culture - overflowing market stands and forth generation hat makers - mixed with a vibrant culinary and nightlife scene awaits. On arrival you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3 | Quito
After breakfast you will be met by an Infinity Tours representative who will take you to the ‘Hop on, Hop Off Bus’ meeting point. The route takes you through the colonial streets of the historic centre to Independence Square, la Cathedral and Iglesia de la Compañía. In the afternoon you have the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo and the equator line to look forward to before returning to the Marsical Sucre meeting point.

Day 4 | Quito - Cotopaxi - Quilotoa - Baños
Following breakfast, check out and travel to Baños by Ecuador Hop, voted the best way to travel through Ecuador. The first stop will be the viewpoint of the incredible Cotopaxi Volcano, the highest active volcano in Ecuador. Continue two hours to the Quilotoa Lagoon, an unbelievable blue-green lagoon nestled inside the caldera of a dormant volcanic crater. From Quilotoa, head to the town of Baños, considered Ecuador’s adventure capital, home to the “Swing at the End of the World” and the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest.

Day 5 | Baños - Waterfalls Route
This morning after breakfast, explore the Waterfalls Route by chiva, a characterful rustic bus used in rural Ecuador. The scenic ‘ruta de las cascadas’ has over 60 falls, hanging bridges and trails. For extreme sports lovers, you will have the option to go bungee jumping, ziplining or experience the “Tarabita” (a type of simple non-electric cable car). Don’t forget to use some of your free time to visit the hot springs as well. In the afternoon, head to The Sky Coffee Bar to have a delicious afternoon tea with pastries, gazing out at the magnificent view of the Tungurahua stratovolcano, before returning to Baños.

Day 6 | Baños - Alausi
Enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel before taking a private transfer to your hotel in Alausí. Spend your free afternoon strolling the picturesque cobblestone streets, where old adobe buildings with wooden balconies take you back in time. We recommend Cafeteria Estación del Tren as the best place in town for a tasty Ecuadorean meal paired with fantastic wine.

Day 7 | Alausi - Ingapirka - Cuenca
After breakfast at your hotel, check out and leave with your luggage on a day trip riding the Devil’s Nose Train, zigzagging through the Andes from Alausí to Sibambe. This remarkable section of the Trans-Andean Railway was no easy feat to construct and you will see why as you experience these breath-taking, yet hair-raising, views. Visit the Puñuna Condor Museum, meet the locals and watch traditional folk dancing. Continue south along the Pan-American Highway to Ingapirca, the most important Inca archaeological site in Ecuador. After a guided tour of the ruins, continue to Cuenca for your next two nights.

Day 8 | Cuenca
Have breakfast at your hotel before heading out on your walking tour of Cuenca, Ecuador’s second most important colonial city after Quito. Amble through the historic streets of this beautiful city that time forgot, among nuns and churches, past ancient buildings with wooden doors and geranium-filled iron balconies. The centre of many craft traditions, you’ll find handicrafts markets and internationally famous panama hats. Enjoy views of medieval hanging cliff houses and views over Cuenca from the Turi lookout point. If time allows, visit a pottery art gallery such as Eduardo Vega’s before returning to your hotel.

Day 9 | Cuenca - Quito - Galapagos Islands
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out and being transferred to the airport for your flight to the Galápagos Islands. Many of the creatures that call these islands home are found nowhere else, making the Galápagos one of the most biodiverse places on earth. You will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel, your base for the following 3 nights. In the afternoon you’ll tour the Highlands to see the famous Galapagos’ giant turtles.

Day 10 | Galapagos Islands
After an early breakfast, departing from port Ayora, a 2-hour ferry will take you to Floreana Island. On the island you’ll have time to go snorkelling, later visiting the flamingos’ lagoon, the “tintoreras” canal to witness the non-aggressive sharks swimming in unbelievable, naturally formed lava canals. On the way you’ll be escorted by sea lions, penguins, blue-footed boobies, and a variety of other birds. You’ll have free time on the island for lunch before returning to port Ayora.

Day 11 | Galapagos Islands
Today is your free day to explore the Santa Cruz island. We recommend the Charles Darwin Scientific Research Station, explore the tidal pools and a lagoon with flamingos, white cheeked ducks and black-necked stilts at El Garrapatero Beach or head to Tortuga Bay, one of the top attractions in the Galapagos Islands where marine iguanas walk the powder-white sands.

Days 12 + 13 | Galapagos Islands
After breakfast check out of your hotel and you will be transferred to the airport to board your overnight flight back to the UK.

Want to be based right in the heart of Cartagena’s old town, surrounded by balconies overflowing with bougainvillea, upgrade your hotel to Hotel Casa Isabel. Any element of this itinerary can be adjusted to suit your needs. Just contact us to find out more.
